**** NCHX – B•O•M (Plastic Horse PH001 – 2019)

A new label, a new alias: Dave Henson has done further trimming of his moniker, after going through Nochexxx and CHXFX phases, and introduces NCHX on the fledgling Plastic Horse imprint. Henson’s output has never been a simple bite and current case is not any different as the LP “B•O•M” comes from techno’s nonconformist end. However I can assure to anyone who would suspect oddball experimentalism, most tracks are bearing decent floor qualities.

The lot is cranked up by deranged drum machine (“Hunting Hides”) that appears also in the metronome stampede “Seventh Gun Territory”, where I can’t ignore the feeling of watching “The Man-Eater”, an Italian sleazy drama with similar noisy percussion passage. Perhaps of most abstract nature is “Entercol” where broken beats are interacting with rusty cowbells.

The best tracks are found on the B-side: “Cyber Tush” believes in acid when 303 squeaks are dissolving in cerebral matter, before “Teflontuan” uncorks bottle post from the past, offering a prime example how caustic techno can groove as hell. M-Plant inclined “Location Scout” is conquering the floor with confidence when giving finishing touches to the album.
