**** Taupe – Deep Water (Sungate SNG016 – 2024)

Record sleeve of Deep Water EP by Taupe.

For the start of this gentle electro EP, the Dutch producer Taupe is sighting in the abyss. The opener “Deep Water” is a fair, stripped down duplicate of that miraculous track from “Aquatic Invasion”. Surrounded by swarming jellyfish, the artist resumes in a soft-spoken manner, with crystalline layers and echoing pads in “Still”.

The best track is “Tempest”. It’s driven by melancholic chords and bubbling synth lines, before airy arps gradually guide us into the eye of a cyclone. In the presence of subtle dub waves, “Arctic” perceived nocturnal breeze from the other side of the Polar Circle. Arriving at “Abyss”, Taupe wishes goodnight with chilled out sequences.

Five-tracker “Deep Water” is Taupe’s sixth EP, two of them having been issued on his own imprint Colours. This EP offers electro tunes between maritime abyss and sunny clifftops, would deserve an applause from fans who are familiar with Plant43 and the likes.
