***** Philipp Stoffel – Akte 001 (Akte 001 – 2025)

“Vorwort”, a rust-tainted preface from ambient spheres, opens the door to the world of Philipp Stoffel. It lays a foundation to solid structures, such as the track “Norm”. Gongs and muscular bass line, charmingly close to “Join In The Chant”, are emerging from the hiss, producing a steamy and whirling flow. After that, “Radius” cuts the pace and activates meditative loops over crackling, dust-covered basis.

The B-side of Philipp Stoffel’s debut is dedicated to “Akzent”. The original is about rolling dub techno boldness with mélange of random sound excerpts and a pinch of euphoria. Vril, known for his magic touch, is on the remix duties. Commencing as a sturdy dub-based version, it gradually inches closer to prog house, by adding pleasing lightness to the original.

One can think of a Fadi Mohem or Erik Jabari replay, but the parallels with Philipp Stoffel stop at their German origins and own label debuts. Stoffel is seeking more complex sounds, variations serving both the floor and chill out space. The vinyl is also nice to hold in the hands, with ‘Akte’ embossed on the white sleeve and stickered by the Board of Culture of the City of Cologne, from the artist’s home town.
