Sheffield’s Short Span, founded only in 2025, has quickly become an acclaimed label for deep electronica. It features new and established artists like Mammo, Sa Pa, Yu Su, K Wata, to name a few. After fine home listening moments, I’ve found an odder bird in the catalogue with Natal Zaks and his Picture project.
Though dub techno theme is present in the album „Eeeeeeee“, especially on the C-side, the artist from Århus, Denmark diverts from the label’s otherwise downbeat atmosphere. Just take the opener „Waaaaaaaa“, a relentless kick drum dunk, and the minimalist dash of „Qeeeeeeee“, both running at 45 RPM instead of 33. The techno side will pair well with Shxcxchcxsh’s recent EP„EEEER“, not only because of title names.
Short Span keeps delivering and 2026 has been very fruitful year with a pace of one release per month. Ranging from ambient and dub to tech house and modern classical, the label is a sure bet for quality compositions.
