My first encounter with GiGi FM is a pleasant one, when the intergalactic mermaid brings to us techno’s bearable lightness. The four-tracker “Movimiento” on her own Sea~rène imprint offers functional tools for the floor. Giulia Fournier-Mercadante aka GiGi FM resides and works in Berlin, and is a trained dancer, which explains the EP’s associations with modern ballet performance.
The pacey opener “Gabriella“ kicks off with crunchy bass line and balmy chords, before piano passages are lending a jazzy appeal. Nowadays more or less compulsory dub textures are sending the funky stomper “Tempelhof” airborne. Then the ride turns seriously fast and funky with the bleepy projectile “Awakening The World’s Heart”, which makes to explore something in the sky. For the end, a whispering voice puts a veil of mystery upon the swirling “Lucid Dreaming”. Digital bonus “Raspberry Pie” is a summerly feelgood tune, like sponsored by grandma’s kitchen. A decent energy pack from GiGi FM for club takeovers.
