In May 2024, Jako Krull joined Taavi Tulev aka HAPE for a gig in Hall, Tallinn’s real underground club, where, in fact, the floors lie over the ground. Their new project Plasma Blotter dropped a ecstatic PA of modular and caustic madness, at the 5th anniversary celebration of the House of Acid events. About the same time, Krull debuted with the digital “Wrap EP” on the local Mürk Records. Obviously this young artist deserves a closer look.
During a blind listening session of new music, the EP immediately stood out as a versatile pack of electronics. “Wrap EP” brings fresh air to the dance landscape, as Krull feels at home in many nearby genres of techno. Grand opening occurs with “Reaching Out To Your Attainable Truth”, an electro-based meditation with whispers, which reminds of the atmosphere of Reade Truth’s Fiction Life LP. Then “OK Boomer” opens with choral effects, before it develops into absorbing acid bass track of the Baroque kind.
Fiery stabs that recall DJ T-1000’s classic “Interferon” are stimulating a lovesick robot that (who?) repeats ‘she’ in the track of same name. “Melodic Technotrance” is born for heavy rotation, lifting you up in a funky manner of 1990’s progressive beats. Of another breed is “Wrap”, adding finishing touches to the EP with relaxing IDM and traces of krautronics.
Promo received from the label, the release purchased from Bandcamp.
