“The Endless Pattern” is a wholesome electro album by DVS NME and Krypton 81, when the US-Danish collaboration pays homage to the late German producer Marcus Mumm aka Das Muster. Both artists contribute with seven tracks, going in shifts across the split album full of convincing old-timer electro. The sonic flashback largely relates to the oil-based era when the Rhine-Ruhr engineering dominated the world, and the industrial high society consisted of AGFA, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp, to name a few.
Krypton 81 lies closer to old school, especially in the robotic song “Photo Electric Effect” with strong presence of Kraftwerk’s spirit. A bionic lady explains the relations of humans and machines in “Wave-Partical Duality” and “Human To Human”. The concluding “Coronal Mass Ejection” could derive from a lab that neighbours to Dopplereffekt.
While Krypton 81 prefers vocal experimentations, DVS NME sticks to instrumentals. It balances well the overall impression of the album, especially when the artist shows love for synth compositions from decades ago. Aptly titled “Instrumentarianism” mirrors the ambience of Miami Vice and “Los Vangelis” might be inspired by the synth voyages of a certain Greek maestro. Tracks like “The Pattern” and “Muckraking” are from the books of classic, flowing electro and the loss of Das Muster feels in “Das Trauer” (“The Mourning”).
