A diverse eight-track album by PurpleAndroid from Exeter, UK who connects many dots in the genre landscape. A urban field recording opens “The Bampfylde Headphase” that gathers speed with caustic breaks, while vehement current affairs report “Superspreader” is loaded with big beat wobbles and “Ion Curtain” is setting sail to the dubby Caribbean melancholy.
Road trip ambient ” Thought That If I Came Here, I Could Find Something” is one of favorites, and could well be a spare track from the KLF’s “Chill Out”. Progressive tech sign is hung over “The Great Loop Forward” and “Yet Another Room – (VPS 1)”, the latter aided by Balearic breeze and dream rave vocals. A dose of relaxation comes in “(VPS 2) – Colour In Nature” and “Mustard Ottoman” offers a psychedelic conclusion with euphoric stabs.
It’s a positive piece of music and while listening to the result, I realized that the artist obviously was able to overcome ‘frustration and disillusionment with the state of the world’ that triggered the release. HypnOgenica, a new sublabel of …txt, is having an impressive launch.
