Alumnus of the coveted Further Recordings (“Spirals”), the Australian Mosam Howieson has now landed on Semantica. The digital full-length reminds that the label from Madrid is not solely a supplier of techno trips, but once a while releases well-chosen tranquilizing sessions.
“Ether” is an enjoyable work through various moods in the field of ambient and electronica. Oozing drones of the opening title track are descending into oceanic depths, with imaginary voices from those lost in Atlantis. “Final Flight” awakes memories of Howieson’s abovementioned EP from 2015, when ‘spirals’ are playing a key role here.
Then “THX” approaches the estranged scenery of “Holy Mountain”, before Mosam Howieson turns to the dub techno theme with immersive builder “Supreme”. Another highlight is “Skynet”, which energizes the perimeter with thudding synth fireworks. Ambient pieces like “Descent” and “Recursion” are clad in velvety textures, while hectic “Fractures” is trapped in the maze of drums.
Can’t leave this post without mentioning “Iridescent”, Semantica’s label compilation. It features luminaries like Rrose, Polygonia (both released the collab “Dermatology” recently), Joachim Spieth, Ryo Murakami and Svreca himself, underscoring Semantica’s quality.
