Since the end of 2020, DJ Godfather has dropped three (digital) albums with over one hundred tracks. Still, such an industrial scale of music seems not to be enough. Accordingly, the artist follows up the compendiums with a stash of EPs that feature full-length versions, alternative mixes, acapellas and instrumentals of the album tracks. DJ Godfather has taken the next extracts from the “This Detroit Thing Of Ours” (2021) under the name “Checkmate EP”, which offers a good mix of vigorous booty beats and classic US electro.
The opener “Checkmate” is a sparkling dash that recalls the first International DeeJay Gigolos compilations. Swerving Detroit bass and bold breaks are in the key role in “Can’t C Me” and reduced bass track “Bass Drop” is fueled by Lil Mz 313’s ghetto girl power. “Assassin On The Decks”, a hip-hop minded cut with scratches and piano passages, comes in two versions, one of them an instrumental. “Friendzone” relies on MC skills of King Saadi and technoid chords. Next up in the series of eleven EPs is “Hold Up“, expected in May 2023.
