Kyle Hall is another (American) top producer to join Apnea. After Gerald Donald’s Gedankenexperiment and E.R.P., the prolific Detroiter drops three tight cuts for the Spanish label. Equally feeling at home in house and techno, Hall lets loose his talent for velvety funk.
After a delicate, pad driven start, fat drums build up a railway rhythm pattern in “The Cosmic Touch”. The next one, “Cobalt”, arrives with a percussive shower and nervous loops, to unleash a psychedelic fuzz. “Phantom” is the king of bass here when Kyle Hall tests the neighborhood with wonky percussion and delivering dimmed grooves for dedicated club people.
Meanwhile, Apnea’s North American tour goes on. The next stop is in Chicago, with “The Moon Dance LP”, a full-length by Hieroglyphic Being. After the first listen, it belongs to the top techno albums in 2023.
